About Me
Annika Larson, MSW, LICSW
I provide a place of welcome, free from judgment, so clients are safe to explore deep feelings and desires for change and healing. I help clients clarify their values and remember/discover what they hold most dear in life so they can experience whole-hearted living. I support clients as they build their sense of self worth and learn to use their voice to speak their truth.
My clients feel supported to work through the repair of a significant relationship or to grieve the loss of one. They may be feeling the weight of depression and anxiety, or be seeking a deeper understanding of themselves. Many people are feeling overwhelmed and anxious during these difficult times; seeking support is good self-care.
I have a very relational approach with my clients as I believe healing and growth occurs within the authentic relationship between client and therapist. I understand that each individual lives within unique systems that influence their quality of life including their family and friends, school, workplace, community, and broader experience in the world. My work with clients is trauma-informed, anti-racist, and intersectional.
My background includes working as a school social worker in special education with students experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and neuro-developmental challenges. I supported students’ psycho-social-emotional needs so they could best function in the school setting. I also worked closely with educators who experienced trauma in the workplace and led restorative practice circles.
Prior to being a school social worker I supported the mental health needs of patients and their families as a clinical social worker in Palliative Care in the hospital setting. I tended to the complex emotions surrounding grief and loss as well as adjustments to a medical diagnosis and disease progression. Earlier in my career I enjoyed providing therapy to young adults in a community mental health clinic and served as an advocate in a shelter for youth experiencing homelessness.
I graduated from the University of St. Thomas/University of St. Catherine with my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work in 2004 and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work, license number 16881. Professional verification provided by Psychology Today.
